Human Lifespan Development provides pupils with the opportunity to explore how we, as humans, grow and develop throughout our lives and to investigate how the factors are interrelated.

Health and Social Care Services and Values will help prepare pupils for a career in any area of health and social care. The values that are described in this unit may also be applied to daily life. Pupils will be given the opportunity to discuss the care values that underpin current practice in health and social care. This unit includes information on what is meant by care values and other terms such as inclusion, non-discriminatory practice, a duty of care and a person-centred approach.

Effective Communication in Health and Social Care will enable pupils to understand the importance of effective communication in health and social care settings. Pupils will investigate the different forms of communication which may be used in health and social care.

The Health and Wellbeing external component builds on knowledge, understanding and skills acquired and developed in Components 1 and 2. Learners will explore how factors can affect an individual’s health and wellbeing positively or negatively. Learners will interpret indicators that can be used to measure physiological health, interpreting data using published guidance and explore the features of health and wellbeing improvement plans. Learners will explore the obstacles that individuals can face when implementing these plans and how they may be mitigated. This unit is assessed through external examination
