Newsletter 61 - Welcome Back

Newsletter Edition 61 – 20th September 2019

Welcome back

It’s great to be back and into the swing of the academic year with so much already happening. A terrific set of results for pupils this summer. Congratulations to all students. Best wishes to our Sixth Form alumni heading off to university for the next chapter in their lives. We wish all leavers the best in their future endeavours. They leave, I am sure, with many fond memories. Please keep in touch!

A very warm welcome to our new Year 7s and Year 12s. It is wonderful to see the Academy filling up with record numbers putting Sarum Academy as their first choice, and rightly so. I look forward to getting to know you and celebrating your successes.

Environmental Message

This week’s assembly was led by Mrs Moore and Connor Sanderson – Year 11. Centred around International Day of Peace taking place on the 21st September 2019. The theme for this year is climate action. An issue collectively very close to our hearts. We look forward to the continued initiatives led by the School Council over the next year and beyond that will champion a ‘greener’ school. Their goal is to reduce our carbon footprint and in some small, but significant, way make a positive contribution.

Year 8 Coastal Visit

It was lovely to see our first educational visit of the year heading out to Lulworth Cove in fine weather. A great day had by all. Check out the photos on Facebook. This year and beyond we have a ‘school funded’ visit for every year group. Part of our wider school experience. Thanks to the Science and Humanities team.

Winning start

Congratulations to our Sixth Form (and Jess) Women’s Football Team on their winning start, 7-6 against United Select. Finding themselves 0-3 down early on they soon found their feet.

Year 6 Technology and the Arts Day

On Wednesday this week we welcomed 168 Year 6 pupils from across our feeder schools for a day of Technology and Art. This is more than we have ever received on such days, with many pupils on their fourth visit to the Academy. It is lovely to see how they have developed and increased in confidence since they came first in Year 4. Our Year 9 Academy Ambassadors were terrific as usual and clearly enjoyed the experience working alongside staff. Being an Academy Ambassador is a strand of our whole school leadership programme, honing their interpersonal skills.

Extended Learning Day – Wednesday 18th September

A terrific Extended Learning Day on Wednesday allowed pupils opportunities beyond their normal lessons for personal development. Year 7s looked at staying safe with sessions running on internet safety, bullying, restorative practices and mental health and wellbeing.

Year 9s were looking at personal finance and managing money.

Year 10s considered issues facing society – with visiting speakers talking about knife crime, homelessness, volunteering and challenging viewpoints – racism and sexism. Year 11s are now well resourced for their Year 11 journey receiving their ‘black folders’. Year 12s were writing personal statements and updating their CVs with Year 13s completing their UCAS (University) Applications. Very exciting!
