Newsletter 63 - World Mental Health Day

Edition 63 – – 7th October 2019

Well stuffed! – BBC Children in Need

Again this year we were involved in World Mental Health Day. It was great to share with students some approaches to mental health and wellbeing. Thanks for getting in touch and sharing what you did through our 5 to Thrive challenge. If you want more information about the support available for young people check out our website or drop us an email. A help guide to accessing these services is available for all parents. We also have a lending library for parents on mental health and wellbeing. If you would like to browse, please do so at our Parents Evening.

Year 11 Football – Winning run continues

Year 11 have gained a third round spot in the National School cup after battling to a 4-3 win against The Bourne Academy in Bournemouth. Throughout the game there was evidence of the tactics and skills sessions that Mr Kean had been working on in Core PE lessons and it was very pleasing to see all the boys communicating and encouraging each other at all times. After being 1-0 up, Sarum saw themselves behind at half time, it then took some Oscar Ball magic to draw them level before he went on to complete his hattrick in the last minute of the game by curling in a delightful left footed shot to the top corner. Everybody involved was a credit to the academy and the attitude of all the pupils was truly amazing. We now look forward to the draw to see where we go next!

Attendance update

As the first half-term draws to a close we take a close look at attendance. Last year 97% of students with attendance above 95% secured that all important Grade 4 or better in English. This only goes to show the importance of good attendance. Good attendance – 95%.

Pen, Pencil, Ruler Rubber – The basics!

Please could I ask parents to ensure young people have a good supply of pens and pencils, rulers and rubbers for school. They are essential learning tools. Whilst we are happy, on occasions, to provide basic equipment this should not be the norm. We have also had some equipment broken of late which is disappointing.

World Maths Day

Pupils across all year groups enjoyed a variety of activities to celebrate World Maths Day on the 15th October. In addition, the Academy also hosted a ‘Stretch in Maths’ morning for visiting Year 5 pupils who spent the morning investigating patterns in Maths to make generalisations. They also experienced how important it is to consider the reality of a problem and not just completely trust the numbers. We are all looking forward to doing it all again in 2020. Well done to all who got involved.

Supporting the Trussell Trust

Thank you to all students for bringing in a donation today and supporting the Trussell Trust. All donations will support families on low incomes in the local community. I would also like to thank you for showing your support for the Stars Appeal last Month. Together the Trust raised over £3000 for the charity.
